There are very few lessons when one of the strategies is not appropriate. Literacy is the center of all education so with many options, it is just a matter of which one to use on a given day and which will be the most appropriate.
I would be trying to relate it to prior knowledge and make it relevant to the student. This would necessitate a connection, typically cross-curricularly, to develop that relation. The path for developing the relationship, depending on the information being disseminated, would base the decision on which strategy to use.
For me, it all depends on the type of text, fiction, nonfiction, long short. I also have to assess the needs of the students and decide which strategies will work best for them.
